Things smoothed out!!

i guess we had to expect some problems with the boat – it sat almost 2 years! Overall the issues were things we could fix. Don’t get us wrong it was a major PiTA!

Sunday afternoon we came up the Calumet River into Lake Michigan the winds were howling- 25-30 knots. We cruised to Hammond marina with no issues, but the white caps were high! Our boat is very capable of handling weather, we on the other hand not always are! Our thought was to fuel up in Hammond then see where we could get before we got tired. Well, we got pushed into the full dock by the strong winds and we were not leaving if we wanted to. There was no getting the boat off the dock – we were pinned there. By the way the fuel dock was closed.

not a big deal, we secured the boat extra well, fired up the generator and chilled for the afternoon.

The morning came and the marine forecast call for 2-4 foot seas and diminishing as the day went on. We decided we were going to go for it. We deal 2-4 ft seas at home all the time. Actually that’s a good day for us.

we took a direct shot up the middle of the lake on route to Ludington MI. The ride was quite rough for the first few hours. Mavis actually got seasick. After a while the seas subsided some and the ride flattened out.

Lake Michigan is huge, we travel 5 hours without seeing land. Fortunately the boat was running good. We ended in Ludington around 5:00.We Situated the boat and went out for a walk and a burger.

this morning May6, the marine forecast called for calm seas. This was a very positive thing because tomorrow the weather on Lake Michigan is bad (4-6’ seas with occasional 9’)we decided to make push to Lake Huron. The weather has been great and we are scheduled to arrive at Rogers City marina at 6:00.

it has been two long days. We covered about 340 miles and burned approximately 600 gallons of diesel! The credit card is getting a work out!

tomorrow morning we will verify the weather still looks good and we will head down Late Huron. Not sure where we are going yet. Lower Huron is new territory for us, so who knows what we will see. Stay tuned!!
