on our last post we were coming into Cleveland, which was uneventful, but we could not find a slip anywhere in Cleveland for us. We ended up anchoring out in the harbor getting tossed around all night. We felt safe, but didn’t sleep well. The next morning we got up and headed to Dunkirk, New York. The small little town that was really rundown. The good point was there was an awesome public wall for us to tie up to. We got a good night sleep and all was good.
we left Dunkirk on a run to get up to a public marina on the start of the Erie Canal. When we got there, the wall was not open for the season and it was much shallow than what was listed. We lightly hit our props, then realized we couldn’t stay there anyway. we powered up and made it up to Lockport. We talked to the lock master to find out that the lock was gonna be open on Friday, and that we would be the first lock in. All the time we were, knowing that there was some problems up in the Erie canal. We rented a car for the day and drove to Niagara Falls. It was very cool. Neither of us had been there before, so that was a good thing. On our way home we stopped at this little Irish steakhouse. Tge food was good. The best part was the magician that works there on Wednesdays. He is world famous and has worked with Penn and Teller. He does this gig in his home town to try new things and improve his skills. His name is Garret Thomas. Check out his youtube videos.
Wednesday night when we got back to the boat I got a text saying that the Erie Canal is gonna be closed for 5 to 6 weeks because of damage caused by flooding. Obviously we very upset by this news.
This morning we came up with a plan. we scrambled to find a marina to leave the boat which we did. The marina is Harbour Place in Buffalo. Really nice people. I had to pay for a full summer slip. We managed to find a one way rental car to NH and it’s all loaded up. We plan on being up at five and on the road by 5:30 tomorrow morning to drive back to New Hampshire.
our plan at this point is to come back out late August. At this point we try to continue to get the boat home. Probably won’t post between now and then, but stay tuned until then. Hopefully the boating gods are more in our favor when we come back.
