Several years ago I had an idea that I wanted an ocean going boat. The S. S. Living Room (a 22’ pontoon boat) was fun, but definitely not seaworthy! After some looking and kicking tires without committing to anything. We ran across an article on the Great American Loop. This looked cool and an amazing trip of a lifetime. Could we do this? What does it entail? After much looking and reading, we decided we wanted to do it. The only problem was work! Well as things worked out, a large company came along and made me an offer for my elevator company – Which I accepted. Shannon (Chicklette) had 33 years in at the nursing home and was ready to be done as well.
So we now had the time we just needed the boat. After several looks we came across a 42’ Sabre Sedan. We instantly fell in love with her. She has great lines, mechanically sound and was perfect for our great loop adventure. Well obviously we purchased the boat and as they say the rest is history.
We spent all last season on the Lucky Chicklette ( what we named her). She worked out as we had hoped. While in winter storage we refinished all the bright work. That entailed 13 days to strip off the old varnish and the 12 coats of new varnish. I hope we don’t have to do it to that level again. We are also finishing up some cosmetic work to get ready.
We are not silly enough to think we completed all the work. . When she hits the water in April there will be more to do. After all, it is a boat.
